Contrary to earlier models, modern Saab cars have transponders in the key-fob, instead of a physical key that can be used to unlock and start the car. The problem with this is that the reprogrammable battery on the key-fob can wear out and not hold a charge any longer. This is particularly relevant if you continue to use the same key with the same lock.

The good news is that it can be replaced fairly easily by a professional locksmith. If you've got the right tools, and a little patience you can do it yourself. The first step is to remove the key-fob off. Insert flatheads into the slot in the middle of your case. It is important to be careful, as the plastic is extremely thin and is susceptible to damage.
