Saab Key Programming

Saab cars manufactured since 1994 have an immobilizer system built on coded keys. A new transponder is required for addition of a second key, and special programming. This is usually done by the dealer using the Tech2 diagnostic tool.

This can be expensive. This is the reason why you should always have a spare key at hand.

Transponder key

The transponder key comes with an electronic chip that sends a signal back to the car when it is placed in the ignition. The car then analyzes the signal to determine whether it is the same as the one in the key. If both signals match the car will be able to unlock itself and start. This is a great way to prevent car theft and keep your car secure from thieves.

Transponder keys are an extremely popular accessory for cars, but they're not as safe as traditional metal keys. The metal component of the traditional key is easily copied and cut, but the transponder is protected by an electronic chip which protects it. This chip contains an unique code that's programmed into a car's computer order to identify it.

When a Saab key fob is used the car recognizes it and allows it to turn on. The car can only recognize the key fob if it is equipped with an unmodified chip and has been programmed to match. If not, the car will reject the key and won't start.

It is crucial to have a spare Saab key. This is especially true especially if you live in a rural area with numerous car thieves. The good news is that it's possible to get a replacement key for your Saab without needing to visit a dealer and pay the hefty prices they ask. In most instances, you can get a new key created on-the-spot at a fraction of the price of what you would pay at the dealer.

Wired key

Saab cars typically come with two keys when they are new. If you only have one, it's an ideal idea to purchase an extra key fob as soon as is possible, because if you lose it, the car will require a new CIM unit, and the locking cylinders need to be replaced. This could be expensive especially if you're buying a second-hand car.

The next step is to connect the column and row wires to the microcontroller. This is the most challenging part of the project and will require a great deal of soldering. There isn't a standard method to go about it, but you should determine how to route and connect each column and row. There are 22 microcontroller wires and pins that you can connect to this keyboard. It has five rows and 17 column.

After the columns and rows are soldered, it's the time to connect them to the key switches. To do this, you need to place a diode over each pin on the key switch and solder it. This will shield the pins that are used for key switches from current and stop them from being shorted. A diode can only allow the current to flow in a single direction, and it has an indicator of black color that indicates the direction in which current will flow.

Some of the tools offered at auto parts stores- such as the Autel MaxiIM IM608 Pro and IM508 -- can help shop customers or even DIY customers in some cases create replacement keys and restore lost immobilizer data Sanabria says. The tools plug into the OBD port and guide the customer through the process, making it more simple than replacing the computer in the vehicle.

Jump-starting the battery

The majority of people have a set in their trunk to jump-start a vehicle in the event of an emergency, but this might not be a good idea for newer cars. These vehicles are equipped with numerous digital and computers that communicate with each other. A voltage surge when the battery is connected to another can fry the components making your car unusable.

Connect the cables to the vehicle that is operating. Let it run for two minutes. Attach the red clip to the positive terminal on the battery that is good (it will have "POS" or "+" on it). Attach the other end of the black cable to a clean, unpainted metal surface under the disabled car's hood--the engine block is a good option. Do not connect the black cable to the negative terminal on the dead battery because it could spark an ignition that ignites the gasoline in the engine bay.

Once the cables are connected, you can start the vehicle that is disabled and allow it to run for around five minutes before you disconnect the cables in reverse order. new saab key in your Saab 9-3 is recharged as you drive. It may take a while it to recharge again. It's a good idea to invest in a spare key fob as soon as you can, because replacing the sole working one requires the installation of a new computer module and a special program to convince it that the lost keys are not trying to steal the car.

Replacement Case

Many Saab owners only have one key for their car and if they lose it, the cost will be. The reason is that it's not cheap to add a new key, and it involves replacing the CIM (Column Integration Module) or TWICE on older models, plus programming. In the event of theft or other catastrophe it is recommended to have an extra key. Even when the key is "new", it will not work.

The dealer will charge you the highest dollar if you only have one working key. However, we can reset and re-program the computer's EEPROM in order to prepare it to accept the new key without having to replace the entire system. This can save you a significant amount of money. It's much cheaper instead of waiting until you lose your only key.
